Mobility Solutions

Mobility Solutions

Its main areas of activity are injection technology and powertrain peripherals for internal-combustion engines, diverse solutions for powertrain electrification, steering systems, safety and driver-assistance systems, technology for user-friendly infotainment as well as vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, repair-shop concepts, and technology and services for the automotive aftermarket. The sector combines the group’s expertise in three mobility domains — automation, electrification, and connectivity — and offers its customers integrated mobility solutions that allow cars to interact with other means of transportation such as bicycles, trains, and buses. Bosch has also been responsible for important automotive innovations, such as electronic engine management, the ESP® anti-skid system, and common-rail diesel technology. In the area of sensor technology, it makes what it currently the world’s smallest stereo video camera for automotive applications.

Industrial Technology

This business sector includes the Drive and Control Technology division, which specializes in drive and control technology for efficient, powerful, and safe movement in machines and systems of any type and size. With intelligent components, customized systems solutions, and services, the division creates the conditions for fully connected applications. The company offers its customers hydraulics, electric drives and controls, gear technology, and linear motion and assembly technology, including software and interfaces to the internet of things. Within the Industrial Technology business sector, the Bosch Connected Industry business unit focuses on software and services for Industry 4.0, which it subsumes under the NEXEED name. Its solutions provide greater transparency in manufacturing and logistics, reduce costs, and increase productivity, all the while supporting associates in their daily work on the shopfloor. Customers get everything from a single source: from advice and technical support, to workforce training, to on-site application setup. The Industrial Technology business sector also includes the special-purpose machinery made by the Assembly Systems and Special Machinery unit, or ATMO. This Bosch-internal supplier of assembly-line systems draws on its wide-ranging manufacturing expertise to develop key technologies, machine designs, and new processing methods for its customers around the world.

Consumer Goods

It includes the Power Tools division, one of the world’s leading suppliers of power tools and power-tool accessories, as well as of measuring and gardening tools. The main focuses of innovation are powerful cordless tools and, increasingly, web-enabled tools. The Consumer Goods business sector also includes BSH Hausgeräte GmbH. As one of the leading global manufacturers of household appliances, it offers the entire range of modern and energy-efficient appliances, which are increasingly also web-enabled, such as stoves, ovens, dishwashers, washing machines, fridges and freezers, and small appliances such as vacuum cleaners and coffee machines.

Energy and Building Technology

Energy and Building Technology

Its Security Systems division develops products and solutions for video surveillance and access control, intruder and fire alarms, and audio and conference systems. It also provides services related to remote monitoring, among other things. Security Systems also includes the new International Integrator Business unit, which offers commercial customers smart energy and building technology as well as services. The new Bosch Global Service Solutions division has the task of expanding the business previously located within Security Systems to include external business services. Within Bosch, it will also provide shared-service functions. The Bosch Thermotechnology division supplies energy-efficient, and increasingly web-enabled, heating products and hot-water solutions. The new subsidiary Robert Bosch Smart Home GmbH offers products and services relating to smart homes.

Ownership structure and organisation

Since 1964, Bosch’s majority shareholder has been Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, a charitable foundation. The Stiftung carries on the charitable and social endeavors of the company’s founder in contemporary form. It sees itself as a foundation that pursues its objectives both with programmes and institutions of its own, and by supporting suitable projects and initiatives proposed by others for tackling the tasks faced by society.
